Some traditions are worth keeping around, and one of my favorites of all is family holiday cards! I love receiving them, so I feel obligated to send them.
This isn’t an obligation I resent, actually. I look forward to selecting them and mailing them out. I realize numerous people dread it, and maybe dislike the task, the expense, or the whole tradition. Jag hör det. but hear me out, there are some pretty simple and quick ways to send cards these days.
You can find tons of beautiful designs on TinyPrints, Paper Culture, Minted, and Shutterfly. However, let’s first talk about a couple of things you will need to get done before picking out the cards; family photos & what exactly you want your card to say.
Holiday family photo Session suggestions & Tricks
Our Rookie mother photographer, Kelsey Smith, wrote a whole short article about how to get the most out of your fall family photo session. check it out here!
If you just welcomed a new baby to your family, you might be considering just featuring them on your card. Birth announcement and holiday cheer all in one? We’ll take it! check out our best newborn photography suggestions here.
How To Do a modern “Year in Review”
The conventional long, typed year-end letter has been turned upside down with some smart typeface treatments. You no longer need to come up with a paragraph about each family member. just a few essential metrics, and you’ll have your own customized infographic to send across the country.
If you want to jump on this trend, but are coming up short on facts to share about your family because you did not adopt a canine or change jobs this year, I’ve brainstormed a few ideas for you, some much more relevant than others depending on the age of your child(ren):
Number of full nights of sleep
Longest nap on record
Number of bottles washed/diapers changed
Number of baby teeth erupted
Number of date nights the new parents have had
Hours logged at park or playground
Greatest consecutive number of steps taken
Number of airline flights survived by parents
Boxes of Mac + Cheese prepared
Teeth lost/tooth fairy visits
